My Journey to Becoming an RDA
A Stellar Spotlight Story of Growth, Resilience, and Career Transformation
Before attending Stellar Career College, I was a stay-at-home mom for three years, focused on raising my daughter and figuring out how to build a better future for us. Before that, I worked my way up from a service clerk to a manager at a butcher shop over six years—but I knew that wasn’t the path I wanted long term. I didn’t want to settle for just any job. I wanted a career where I could make a real difference. That’s what inspired me to become a dental assistant. I’ve always been a big-hearted, empathetic person, and I wanted to help change how people feel about going to the dentist—especially those who have fear or past trauma.
Finding the Right Path
When I found Stellar Career College, it immediately stood out to me. The environment was welcoming, the classes weren’t overcrowded, and I was able to get that one-on-one support from instructors whenever I needed it. One of the biggest impacts on my journey was my instructor, Mrs. Gutierrez. She brought so much passion and energy into the classroom. Every day felt exciting, and I genuinely looked forward to learning and growing.
Overcoming Challenges
One of my biggest fears going into school was testing. I’ve never been a strong test taker, and school was something I struggled with growing up. But the staff never made me feel like I couldn’t succeed. They reassured me, supported me, and were always there when I needed help. Balancing school and being a mom wasn’t easy—but I stayed committed. Having access to a quiet place to study made all the difference.
Hands-On Training & Real Experience
The hands-on training was one of my favorite parts of the program. Practicing with classmates and working through real scenarios helped everything click. By the time I started my externship, I felt prepared. I asked questions, observed closely, and saw how everything I learned applied in the real world.
Career Success
After graduating, the support didn’t stop. I received help building my résumé and connecting with job opportunities close to home. I was proud to be hired as a Dental Assistant at Valley Springs Health and Wellness Center. Being in the field confirmed I chose the right path. I love connecting with patients and educating them on how dental health impacts overall health.
Biggest Achievement
One of my biggest accomplishments was earning my RDA license. As someone who struggled with testing, this was a huge moment for me. I studied hard, stayed focused, and passed on my first try—it was the best feeling in the world.
Looking Ahead
Today, I continue to grow in my career. I assist chairside, support my team, and continue learning every day. My future goals include becoming an RDAEF2 and possibly pursuing dental hygiene.
